On-going Education & Training
Colbrow Healthcare is committed to providing easy access to training opportunities as we acknowledge that it is a requirement of AHPRA that all Registered and Enrolled Nurses conform to the Standards set by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board (ANMB). This includes Registered Nurses undertaking a minimum of 20 units of Continuing Professional Development, relevant to their practice in order to maintain their annual Nursing Registration. Registered Nurses who are also Registered Midwives are required to undertake a minimum of 40 units of Continuing Professional Education. Part of these points must include the mandatory annual competencies required for continued employment with Colbrow Healthcare.
All personal care workers must also complete mandatory annual competencies for their continued employment with Colbrow Healthcare.
To make it as easy as possible for our nurses and carers to obtain their requisite number of CPD points and their mandatory annual competencies, we have implemented an on-line learning platform, as well as offering regular face to face training.
In partnership with our external training provider, we are pleased to offer all our staff access to FREE CPD training
The training package includes mandatory annual competencies, such as:
Basic Life Support (CPR)
In addition, as a Colbrow member, you will also be able to access a library of further learning which includes
A comprehensive breastfeeding library
Foetal monitoring courses
An extensive medication administration and information library, for Registered Nurses and Care Workers
Intravenous Cannulation training
Numerous courses relating to OHS
A broad range of courses relating to Dementia
Face to Face Learning
We also frequently run FREE and heavily SUBSIDISED face to face training in conjunction with our training partners. We let our nurses and carers know about what training is coming up through our regular training update newsletter emails
This training includes:
Wound Care Training
Run by one of Melbourne's experts in wound care, this training is valuable for all nursing staff whether placed in hospitals, in the home or in aged care settings. We heavily subsidise this training for all Colbrow team members and is usually run twice a year.
Niki-T Syringe Driver Training, Including a refresher on the insertion of a 'Saf-T-Intima' subcutaneous cannula
Run in conjunction with one of Melbourne's specialist palliative care services, we offer this training free of charge to all Colbrow Homecare team members. It is imperative for our home care nurses to be confident in the use of Niki-T Syringe Drivers as these are what are used in the palliative care setting. The course is usually run twice a year.
Dementia Care Training
Run in conjunction with Alzeimers Australia, this is a comprehensive 2 day course designed to help Personal Care Workers and Registered Nurses manage patients suffering from dementia. This course is heavily subsidised by Colbrow Healthcare and is usually run twice a year.
Basic Life Support Updates
Each year, we run several face to face Basic Life Support updates for those team members that prefer to learn in the face to face environment.
First Aid Certificate Level II
We also run regular First Aid Certificate II training as it is a requirement that all homecare staff (including Registered Nurses) hold a current First Aid Certificate Level II. The Certificate must be completed every three years with annual Basic Life Suppport updates.
